Femme Fatale: Jodi Arias Part 12

Expert witness for the defense, psychologist Richard Samuels continued to take the stand for the defense and today the prosecution was able to question him as well. Last week the world found out that Arias had PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) that caused the “fog” of memory loss Arias has been claiming which prevents her from recalling details of the slaying.

At first I was surprised that the defense was able to find someone to side with them, but it happened and will always happen when you’re paying them. Samuels is the same doctor Martinez interviewed years ago and never once had Samuels mentioned anything about PTSD to Martinez. This is why last week Martinez was attempting to have him not be a witness for the defense, but obviously he failed in his attempt.

Whenever the defense gets up to speak for Jodi it’s always a bore. Then it all changes once it’s the states turn at the witness. I absolutely love Martinez and how he always makes whoever he questions trip over their own words and make them look 20x’s smaller.

Martinez stayed on one topic for a while– Samuels buying Jodi a book about “self-help.” At first you may think who cares! But Martinez isn’t a rookie he knows where he wants the jury’s mind to wander. If you’re evaluating someone, treating them or anything along those lines you don’t cross certain lines. Buying a client/patient anything is questionable as to your relationship with them. This is exactly what I was saying last week when it was mentioned on HLN that Samuels had smiled at Jodi. Seemed like he was a groupie or she had somehow pleased him (if you know what I mean) because we all now know how she gets down. Now if their friends or anything along those lines this can make the jury question his analysis of Jodi– it all may be fake to favor Jodi. Martinez contends that providing these materials to her proves that he was a biased expert witness who went beyond his role as an evaluator. Pow!

Next, Martinez then mentioned that Samuels was sanctioned once in New Jersey for what Martinez claimed was a similar ethical breach. The defense did bring this up as well just so Martinez wouldn’t have an “up” on them, but that didn’t stop Martinez from questioning him on that topic. In that sanctioned case, Samuels had tried to trade his services for dental work, Samuels was ordered to “cease crossing boundaries with clients and entering into relationships which may create conflicts of interest with his clients.” Martinez knocks it out the ball park linking Samuels buying Jodi a book as crossing boundaries. Pow, pow!

Martinez also pokes a hole in Samuels
whole evaluation which is based off a lie. How? Well besides being unprepared every time Martinez asked him something he stated his evaluation is based off the “ninja” story Jodi told him. Therefore, all of her answers in the PTSD test reflect her lies that masked intruders (ninjas) caused this. The test results showed her PTSD is caused by “nonsexual assault by a stranger.”
Then Samuels states, “perhaps I should’ve re-administered the test once she told me the “truth.” No way! I didn’t know whether to laugh or gasp. Martinez completely invalidated what Samuels previously said on the stand during the defense’s questioning. A huge blow to the defense.

Today for the first time on HLN and ABC news we see never before seen footage during her interrogation back on 2008– Jodi’s on her head for almost 30 seconds while she waits for the detective. I don’t know which sane person would do this! Then I remembered that foreign exchange student Amanda Knox who was arrested in Italy for having killed her roommate? While waiting for police to interview her she had done cartwheels in the halls. Everyone thought what the hell!? But apparently it’s a stress reliever. I’ll give Jodi that much–

Also while waiting, Jodi snoops through the trash and sings the song “Here With Me” by pop star Dido. Anyone ever heard this song or read the lyrics?

“I didn’t hear you leave
I wonder, how am I still here?
And I don’t wanna move a thing
It might change my memory

Oh, I am what I am
I’ll do what I want, but I can’t hide
And I won’t go, I won’t sleep, I can’t breathe
Until you’re resting here with me”

Very eerie lyrics for the situation that she’s in. Sounds like the only way Jodi was ever able to sleep and breathe was to kill Travis and he had no other choice, but to rest with her– in her memories.

After singing the eerie song Jodi then starts snooping through the trash? Very odd. Then Jodi says this–

“This is a really trivial question, and it’s going to reveal how shallow I am, but before they book me can I clean myself up a little bit?” Let me state that this is said after the detective tells her she’s being arrested. Believe it! I think we’re all a bit shallow, but how can you even think about that when your going to be arrested!? Here is the now infamous mugshot…
