Trying To Get Pregnant: My Sex Life

My sex life! Well– not exactly telling you what I do in the sheets, but some things I’m reading up on to get knocked up for the second time. This may be a shocker, or actually may not be a shocker at all for many of you, but did you know that you could only get pregnant when your ovulating? Sure, go ahead and laugh, I’ll wait– I honestly thought you could get pregnant whenever, so imagine my surprise when the doctor told me what no one has ever told me! I just thought ovulating amped up the chances. I still don’t believe it though, haha. My doctor suggested to get an ovulation kit to be certain of my ovulation days, but they should be the 10th, 11th and 12th day after the start of my period.

Different ways we tried to conceive

I’m very open with my sex life and talking freely about it with just about anyone. Yep! When I was telling my family what I’ve been trying they jumped in to tell me the myths of what positions worked best for a boy because that’s what we want next. My mother chimed in and said, ‘keep your legs up!’ THANKS MOM! My mother-in-law just thinks we’re perverts who do it every chance we get that she has no worries of us making a momma’s boy. My best friend suggested we get on all fours and my cousin said to get on all fours while standing up- well stand up and– yeah, you get it. I don’t believe that certain positions will get you pregnant or if you do this instead of that you’ll get a boy or girl, but when you want what you want you’ll try anything!

Myths on conceiving

A few things I’ve read is that there is no truth to a woman having to orgasm in order to get pregnant. Also the advice given to me about keeping my legs up or staying lied down for a longer period of time makes no difference. So much sperm is ejaculated that even if some sperm escapes just know a bunch of them are making their way up to your egg.

I also read that using lubricant can kill sperm the reason being is that it carries spermicide. If you’re someone who need lubricant there are two brands that fertility friendly; PreSeed and Conceive Plus.

Caffeine may also affect issues in conceiving. Thankfully my diet doesn’t allow coffee so SAVED.

Hot tubs are a no-no for men. “It can take two to three months to produce a mature sperm cell and it’s the immature sperm that are especially vulnerable…” This even accounts for men who wear tight underwear or are avid bicyclist! Sperm count might be lowered as a result of heat around the scrotum. Well thank goodness we don’t own bikes!

I’m taking it all into consideration and trying everything I can. I feel as if I’m way behind then I originally wanted. Ziana will be three-years-old next month and having my kids close in age is something we always wanted. Welcome to our journey– hopefully not a long one.
