Mammogram Get Those Boobs Looked At! Breast Cancer Awareness

If you’ve got boobs it’s time to get yourself a mammogram! Not just women, men too! I wanted to share my recent experience with a mammogram. Here’s my little blog post with a Youtube video down below of the experience.

My Mammogram Tale

Step one was the decision to prioritize my health. Walking into the clinic, I was met with a blend of nerves and determination. From the initial consultation to the actual mammogram, the amazing nurses navigated the delicate balance of professionalism and empathy, transforming what could have been an anxiety-inducing experience into a moment of empowerment and self-care.

The Urgency of Mammograms

Imagine a mammogram as your personal health detective. It goes beyond the realm of an annual screening; it’s a proactive measure, detecting potential issues before they take center stage in your life. Early detection isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a transformative power that can change the trajectory of your health.

Self-Examinations

Now, let’s delve into self-examinations – a personalized ritual that unfolds in the comfort of your home. No medical degrees required. Understanding the nuances of how your breasts normally feel and staying vigilant for any changes is key. It’s a language your body speaks, and becoming fluent in it is an act of self-love. During puberty I will have my kids get use to doing this.

What to look out for:

  • Breasts that are their usual size, shape, and color
  • Breasts that are evenly shaped without visible distortion or swelling
  • If you see any of the following changes, bring them to your doctor’s attention: Dimpling, puckering, or bulging of the skin
  • A nipple that has changed position or an inverted nipple (pushed inward instead of sticking out)
  • Redness, soreness, rash, or swelling.

The Mammogram Process

Now, let’s talk specifics. The mammogram itself involves a series of low-dose X-rays to capture images of the breast. Yes, it’s a bit uncomfortable, but it’s swift and crucial. The radiologic technologists guide you through each step, ensuring your comfort and answering any questions you may have.

Results

Waiting for results can be challenging, but remember, this is a proactive step toward your well-being. I’m proud to announce that I have been given a clean bill of health! For now at least.
