We did back-to-school shopping for Ziana last month, but back-to-school doesn’t just mean getting the necessary supplies for your kid and making sure they get all their necessary shots, but it also means taking care of ourselves. There’s nothing worse when your child comes home sick from school over and over and over again. That’s why every year I make sure I stay on top of getting my flu shots.

Going to the doctor means making an appointment, taking time out of your day, making an extra stop. Since I’m always shopping, the convenience of getting shots while shopping makes me a happy mom. Kmart is one of my happy places– I get to shop and get some of my medical needs met all in one place. A trip to a Kmart Pharmacy doesn’t end with flu shots. The pharmacy team can also help you select over the counter healthcare items as part of their “Care Beyond the Counter” approach. Which is something I’m happy about because that again means not having to make an extra trip to my doctor so he can recommend the same thing a Kmart pharmacist would.

Every year I make it in to get my flu shot and every year I feel on top of the world because I honestly feel as if nothing can catch me, not even a cold. This week I made it to Kmart did some more shopping for items I probably didn’t need (as usual) and decided to also swing by the pharmacy department.

Now for you folks that are weary about getting the flu shot check this out– According to Center for Disease Control and Prevention influenza (flu) a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses, which can cause mild to severe illness, or even more serious outcomes. You catch the flu, the whole family is at risk of catching it too. And you might be taking it like a champ, but your 5-year-old may not.

Interestingly, according to a poll conducted by CityMD, an urgent care center network, only ’52 percent of adults aged 18-34 didn’t plan to get the flu shot during last year’s season, and 25 percent blamed cost as the main deterrent.’ 52%! Yes, you read that correctly. Now imagine that 52% getting sick, which now means having to call off of work for a day or days- go to the doctor and cost you probably more than it originally would’ve cost you, if you had received the flu shot. Last year the cost of folks missing work cost was $5.8 billion. Again, you read it right.

This year at Kmart getting the shot for the whole family can cost nothing, $0 co-pay with most insurance plans. The next best thing next to that is no appointment is needed! Less hassle is what I need in my life. Am I right?

    Yes!! Because 2 years ago I chose not to when they offered it. Less than 2 weeks later I came down with the flu.

    I actually am getting it next week for work. It’s mandatory for nurses at the hospital where I work. I just make sure to get my lollipop!

    I have never gotten a flu shot, have not had the flu in over 15 years. Do not see the need for one and do not want the potential side effects.

    No, I have not gotten a flu shot as I am unable to do so. The flu shot makes me sicker and the last time I got one, I was in bed for almost 8 weeks.

    Yes, both Hubby and I got our flu shots. No way of knowing for certain if it is why we rarely catch the flu or if it isn’t worse than would be without but works for us.

    I got my flu shot because I work at a doctor’s office and I’d rather be partially protected from the flu than not at all! I’m around way too many sick people to leave it to chance!

    I commented a few days ago but haven’t seen the comment….so as to not disqualify myself, I will comment again. Delete if this is a dupe. YES, I did get my flu shot. I totally believe in them, even though they don’t protect against all strains of the flu.

    My husband is sick and could land in the hospital if he were to get the flu. We were practically ordered to get flu shots by his oncologist. Yes, I believe in them. It’s been 3 years since I’ve been sick. My daughter doesn’t believe in them and she has been sick every few months for years (she doesn’t live with us)! Some people get the shot, then get sick — it happens. It is either a coincidence or because flu shots don’t protect you against EVERYTHING. I guess you could argue that they don’t help, but they sure don’t hurt. I will continue to get them. To each their own.

    I got it last week, they were doing them at work which made it easy. I get it because I have a 1 year old!
